Discover the hidden Lisbon this March 2017 – Part 1

The first month of spring is a wonderful time to travel, because it marks new beginnings and infuses a sense of optimism and energy. So let’s see how we can channel all this into creating the perfect trip to Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal and one of the greatest centers of the Age of Discoveries. So it’s not a mystery in this case that we embark on a journey to discover the hidden Lisbon this March 2017.

Somewhere hidden between diverse colorful brick houses and winding cobblestone streets, nested at the heart of Baixa, the most picturesque and traditional neighborhood in Lisbon, you will find the smallest bookshop in the world at the Escadinhas de Sao Cristovao. It is about the size of a shoe box, but it does promote literature and it is a touchy and gentle reminder that little things can mean a lot.

A doll museum may not be something altogether new or unique in the world. But how about a Doll Hospital? Lisbon’s very own Hospital de Bonecas is a lovely corner in the city where you have rendez-vous with your childhood. Old dolls are mended here, new clothes are fitted and costumes for carnivals are also available for purchase or rental. Of course there is also a museum to visit and you are most welcome to bring along your little ones.

You haven’t delved into the heart of Portugal deep enough if you haven’t admired the beautiful tiles called “azulejos”. They cover not only the interior walls of houses, but they also decorate the exterior facades of the residences. They are beautiful reminders of very old times, when art was more gentle and subtle.

Lisbon is a maze of hidden and exposed wonders and a spring trip is a good idea. If you want, you can also opt for a Libson tour if you are interested in knowing some of the more mainstream attractions. It’s all up to you!
