A cruise on the Tagus River in Lisbon

A cruise on the Tagus River in Lisbon

We’ve traveled the world on land together for quite some time. But today, we want to suggest a cruise on the Tagus River in Lisbon for a change. Let’s experience life on the Portuguese metropolis by water.

Whenever i travel to cities that have access to the sea or a river, I look for the local cruise options. And I’ve never regretted this choice: the water provides a beautiful and blue life of its own and offers a unique and panoramic perspective of a place. Much like looking down on life below perched on a high peak or building, regarding life from the water provides a sense of blissful detachment.

The capital of Portugal is the city on Tagus River (which you will also encounter by its local name, Rio Tejo). Measuring 1000 kilometers plus in length, it is the largest river in the Iberian Peninsula. The city of Lisbon was built at its mouth, so the vibrant life of the port has always been part of what makes Lisbon what it is today.

If you are looking for a cruise ship in Lisbon, you should know you have got quite a few options, since there are five docking areas in the city. The largest one is Santa Apolonia. The Apolonia Jusante and Jardim do Tabaco docks are located in the same place, while Alcantara and da Rocha are located near the Ponte 25 de Abril, the most famous bridge in the city.

The river cruise will give you a view of the most emblematic sites in town. Besides, you will see the beautiful whitewashed buildings with the red rooftops, the buzz of the port (reminiscent of the commercial center a couple of hundred years ago), the Cathedral and many more.

One more thing: the docks are located around 1.5 kilometers from the city center, farther from other spots in town. So you just might want to look into booking some Lisbon port transfers.
